Alone in the Desert: The Unexpected Deep Messages of Israeli Music
A new series in partnership with the Canadian Zionist Federation and the World Zionist Organization, facilitated by Uri Levin: Who is Israel’s artist of the year? What song have all the kids been playing on repeat? Which songs have been dominating the radio? And how does this connect to the latest developments in Israeli society?
Israeli music carries deep, critical messages about current events, societal challenges, and the shifting geopolitical situation all while keeping a good beat.
In this series, we’ll listen to some of Israel’s latest hits, examine the lyrics, and discuss some of the deeper messages behind the catchy tunes.

First Session, March 17, 1:00 pm – Jewish-Israeli Fusion
Israel is known to be a big melting pot for Jews from different backgrounds, ethnicities, and observances. And when it comes to Jewish Pop Music, this melting pot creates a very interesting soundtrack.

Second Session, April 28, 1:00 pm – I’m Not A Toy!
The Israeli female pop musicians have something to say, and they say it loud!

Third session, May 26, 1:00 pm – Everything is Political
Israelis love to say what’s on their mind, straight to your face. Especially when it comes to politics. Israeli music is no different.
